Inspector I2: Inspects hard-surface floor covering for pattern and color defects and grades it according to quality: Participates as crewmember to mount roll of finished floor covering on unwind stand. Signals ROLL-UP-GUIDER OPERATOR (products industry) 590.685-050 to start machine that pulls hard surface floor covering across cutting table. Examines material for flaws as it unwinds onto table. Marks defective areas with tape or cuts flag into material, depending upon length of defective area. Signals ROLL-UP-GUIDER OPERATOR (products industry) to cut defective sections from acceptable material. Resets counter after each split. Grades floor covering, based on knowledge of company standards. Removes sample of material for laboratory test. May also measure thickness of materials to ensure compliance with specifications, using micrometer or snap gauge. May also be designated according to floor covering inspected as Rug Inspector (products industry), Tile Inspector (products industry), Wide-Piece-Goods Inspector (products industry).
